They are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and attend prominent international and local ophthalmic conferences to bring the latest knowledge and techniques in eye care to South Africa.

Dr Johannes Meyer was born and educated in South Africa. After obtaining his medical degree (cum laude) from the University of Stellenbosch in 1994, he worked as a general medical practitioner in Knysna. In 2005 he obtained the specialist degree in ophthalmology from the University of the Free State (cum laude). He has worked and studied in the field of eye surgery in Britain, Scotland, Canada and Germany. He is an active member of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa, The South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, The South African Vitreoretinal Society and the European Vitreoretinal Society. He joined the Garden Route Centre for Eye, LASER and Plastic Surgery (now the Garden Route Eye Clinic) in 2005.
The following three years he spent in private practice in Kimberley. In 2005 he moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, to run a successful practice until deciding to return home to South Africa in August 2013. In 2009 he obtained his Canadian Ophthalmic Certificate. Dr Botha is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a member of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. In addition to General Ophthalmology, he has a special interest in Cataract Surgery, Oculoplastic Surgery and Glaucoma. He also has an interest in refractive surgery (LASIK and now also TESA).
