Intra-Ocular Lenses
An Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) is a tiny, artificial lens for the eye. It is a clear, foldable acrylic lens that replaces the eye’s natural lens usually during cataract surgery.

The main purpose if an IOL is to focus incoming light onto the back (Retina) of the eye. There are many different types of IOL. (Multi-focal, Mono-focal, Toric and Extended depth of focus lenses) to choose from, depending on each patient’s needs and preferences. Your IOL will contain a suitable prescription to provide you with the best possible quality of vision. The IOL is placed into the eye through a small incision and the surgery usually takes less than 15 minutes. You may experience some degree of post-operative glare and halos around lights for about 3 months.
