The practice in George was founded by Ophthalmologists, Dr Charl Roux and Dr Richard Faul in 1997 with a vision to provide their patients with quality and effective eye care.

Dr Johannes Meyer joined the team in 2005 after he obtained the specialist degree in ophthalmology from the University of the Free State.

Due to the high demand from patients in neighbouring towns, George Surgical Centre Private Day Hospital and the Knysna branch of the Garden Route Eye Clinic was established in 2012.

 Dr Beyers Botha joined the team in 2013 after running a successful practice in Canada for 8 years.

Today, Garden Route Eye Clinic is a well-established destination for eye care in the Southern Cape.
